![]() After Chaplin's death, Anthony and Algot were shipped to Massachusetts. This is where Anthony learned English and how to play the flute. Most kids didn't like Anthony because he played the flute, and the top hat didn't help, either. His mother was very supportive and they had a great relationship together, messing around with fake Hitler mustaches, etc. When he turned 18, Anthony’s mother gave him what was rightfully his, which was a huge surprise for the poor Deptula family. Young Anthony was happy to inherit millions of dollars left to him on his father's death bed, but with all trust funds comes a catch 22. His father had one dying wish: for Anthony to become a mime and take over Hollywood, striking back at those who took him down. Anthony was ashamed and confused initially at his mother for sleeping with an old old smelly man, which would be the equivalent of sleeping with Clint Eastwood today. Anthony packed his bags and left that night. He decided to travel the states for the summer. But then he realized that his stamina was useless in long journey and was better used in quick bursts with a mix of super facial movements.
Giving in to his father’s dream, he attended WPSA that September. He was a failure for the first three years; the only reason he was not expelled was because he paid double tuition. Staying in the Chaplin closet for three years, he had his big break. He went to classes, took notes, went to writing sessions and watched hours of The State, but none of that mattered until January 25th of his junior year. That year he wrote, directed, composed, and acted in the self-titled play Anthony Chaplin Deptula: Why My Father Kept Me a Secret. It received raving national reviews and won him the coveted Winchester Trophy. He is currently living off his father's name in his old bungalow on the old Charlie Chaplin studio lot, which was purchased by Jim Henson. |
