The WPSA Winch of the Year award has been presented by the school to an outstanding member of society, or the entertainment industry who embodies the WPSA spirit of excellence. 
Preferably youthful excellence.  Or to an old-timey comedian who passed away.

1960:  No award presented.  Presidential Candidate John F. Kennedy was selected, but Edgar Winchester decided that it would be "hack" to give him the award.

1963:  F.D. Moore and T.E. Starzl, performers of first ever liver transplant.

1992:  Rudolph A. Marcus, scientist, for his mathematical analysis of how the overall energy in a system of interacting molecules changes and induces an electron to jump from one molecule to another.

1995:  (TIE) Bob Odenkirk and David Cross of Mr. Show, and Doctors Edward B. Lewis, Eric F. Wieschaus, and Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, for studies of the fruit fly that will one day help explain congenital malformations in humans.
